MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – President Trump has approved federal disaster assistance for Mobile, Baldwin and Escambia counties and the Poarch Band of Creek Indians in response to Hurricane Isaias.

The aid is available to the state of Alabama to supplement state, tribal and local response efforts due to the emergency conditions. The President’s action authorizes FEMA to coordinate all federal disaster relief efforts to alleviate the hardship and suffering caused by the emergency on the local population, and to provide appropriate assistance to save lives, to protect property, public health and safety and to lessen or avert the threat of a catastrophe.

Specifically, FEMA is authorized to identify, mobilize and provide at its discretion, equipment and resources necessary to alleviate the impacts of the emergency. Emergency protective measures, limited to direct federal assistance, will be provided at 75% federal funding.

Gov. Kay Ivey issued this statement tonight:

“Thank you, President Trump, for standing with Alabama as we prepare for potential impact from Hurricane Isaias. This emergency declaration will help cut tape for our federal partners to aid in any response. We will continue to stay engaged with the Trump Administration and other partners as we brace for this storm. Fellow Alabamians, y’all stay weather aware.”
