ACTION 8 UPDATE: New details in arrest of LEAD Academy teacher
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Montgomery police have released new details about the arrest of a teacher at LEAD Academy, a Montgomery charter school.
Police say they have charged 30-year-old Langston Carter with having a gun on school property, two counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana in the 1st degree. Carter is being held in the Montgomery County Detention Facility.
The school says students were put on lockdown issued by the Montgomery Police Department to ensure integrity of the investigation.
“We take this matter seriously and are committed to maintaining a safe, supportive, and respectful learning environment for all scholars, employees and families,” the school said in a statement yesterday.
The school said it’s cooperating with the appropriate authorities as the investigation proceeds.
LEAD Academy was established in 2019 as the first charter school in the county. It serves children from Pre-K through 12th grade.
